Been super excited about traveling to Myanmar ever since I returned from Vietnam back in April. So my travel partner Amber and a couple more great friends Heather & Matt headed out to explore this no so known country.
First stop Mother Land Inn 2 a great local guest house. The rooms where $35 per night. Not to bad. And that includes free wifi and breakfast. I traveled super light on this trip. Just that backpack on my back for almost a month in Myanmar. Every time I travel I realize I can bring less and less with me. I’m all about carry on only.
First Myanmar meal was at Feel. We saw that Anthony Bourdain had ate here on his trip. So we had to find it. That whole table of food plus beers cost us $20.
Next stop Shwedagon Pay, one of Buddhism’s most sacred sites. Read more about it here. www.shwedagonpagoda.com Love getting to wear my first skirt which is actually called a longyi. A sheet of cloth widely worn by Men in Burma.
Love seeing the novice monks running around the temple.
Finding the day you where born on and saying a prayer and making a wish while pouring water over the symbol for your day of the week is an important aspect of Buddhism.
I love seeing the monks doing their prayers
We had heard about the circle train that was a 3 hour train ride that went all around the outskirts of Yangon. Most used by locals to get around. Love going on the local trains.
Amber was excited to be on such a fancy train. HAHA
Loved seeing the local life outside the city.
Amber made some really cute friends.
We thought why not get off here. Who knows where we are at. But it looked like a good place to get off the train for a while. There was a great local market right along side the train tracks. We where the only travelers at the market. Everybody was super nice to us even though nobody spoke english. Heather and Amber trying to figure out where we are.
This lady was rolling beetle nut in a tobacco leaf which is real popular to chew on here
What a great first couple days.
