After Inle we weren’t sure exactly where to go. We heard Mawlamyine wasn’t a super popular destination for tourists which is always music to our ears. So we headed south to check it out. We took an hour flight from Inle back to Yangon. Then from there we found a driver to take us the rest of the way. There are no airports near there. So we took the 5 hour drive. Dealing with some of the traffic wasn’t fun. Especially when a tree falls down to block the road. That really caused a back up. Luckily our driver worked it for us to get around the tree. But what did stop to see what the hold up was . It was funny to see locals out there with saws cutting the tree up to clear the road.
We finally made it.
More of those smiling faces we love.
locals love taking pictures with us.
One day we decided to take a boat with the locals over to Bilu Island. way off the beaten path. It’s an island right off the coast but it’s the size of Singapore. We hired a guide that spoke english to take us around so he could translate for us.
Love this old Chevy.
Lots of rural farmland on this island. Meet my new friend.
One of the highlights of this island was the fact while exploring one of the local villages we actually came upon a wedding. We couldn’t believe it. I really wanted to see a local wedding and next thing I know there it is. Right when they saw us they invited us in and where so amazing. The first thing they did is offer us ice-cream. So next thing we know we are sitting with the couple inside the families home eating ice cream with them. Then they wanted to take pictures and then insisted that we sit with them to eat. Everybody at the wedding was nice. Such a special day. Just a bunch or friends and family pumping load music and eating good food. Loved that we got to be a part of it.
They didn’t even have a photographer. This is probably the only picture taken of them . I’m making sure to get them a copy.
After the wedding we where back on our way exploring the island.
This was just a 2 day trip. From here we had to get back to Yangon for Matt and Heather to catch their flights home.
